Project Description
Teodosio Magnoni
Biography
He studied art at the Carrara Art Academy in Bergamo and mosaic at the Ravenna School.
In 1959, after long stays in Switzerland, Spain and Sweden, he settled in Rome where he intensely frequented the artistic, literary and musical avant-gardes. At the beginning of the Seventies he carried out research aimed at highlighting not the occupation but the emptying of space. It was in this phase of his research that the transition from painting to sculpture took place. Since then he has been committed to the theoretical elaboration and empirical realization of the Heideggerian concept of the transformation of space into place and of sculpture as a place in itself, alongside an intense reflection on the significant void.
The first personal exhibition was in 1965 at the La Salita gallery in Rome. He has held over fifty personal exhibitions in prestigious private and public museums and galleries in Italy and abroad.
Of note are the Venice Biennials of 1976 and 1978 (personal room), the installation and exhibition at the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum in Hagen (Germany) in 1978, the anthological exhibitions at the Palazzo dei Consoli in 1987, at the Palazzo del Comune and in city of Venzone (Udine) in 1992, at the Rocca di Umbertide in 1996 and at the Municipal Art Gallery of Cesena in 2001, the exhibition at the Lucy Milton Gallery, London, 1975, at the Galerie Lydia Megert, Bern, 1980, at the galleries Plurima Udine, 1986, Marcello Silva Banchi Nuovi, Rome, 1990, Fioretto contemporary art, Padua, 1992, The black triangle, Alessandria, 1994, the installation at Palazzo Odescalchi, Roman Bassano, 2000, at the Miralli gallery, Viterbo, 2003, at the Marchetti gallery, Rome, 2006, at the Brufa Museum (Perugia), 2007, at the Arte e Pensiero gallery, Rome, 2011, at the Anna Marra Contemporary Art gallery, Rome, 2014.
